Why Shower Pipes Leak?
Aug 24, 2023
The causes of a leaking shower hose may include the following.
1. Loose parts: water leakage from the shower may be caused by loose parts. When you find water leakage, you should first check whether any parts are loose, once you find the loose parts, tighten them in time to solve the water leakage problem.
2. Thermal expansion and contraction phenomenon: In the process of heating water, sometimes there will be dripping phenomenon. This is usually due to the water temperature rises caused by the volume of water expansion and overflow. This will decrease in colder weather and lower water temperatures and is normal and requires no special treatment.
3. Build-up of impurities and deposits: After a long time of using the shower head, impurities tend to build up in different parts of the shower head. In this case it is necessary to disassemble the shower head for thorough cleaning, otherwise it will lead to dripping phenomenon.
4. Atmospheric pressure: After switching off the shower head, dripping sometimes occurs for a short period of time. This is due to atmospheric pressure. When the shower head is switched off, some water remains inside, which cannot be discharged immediately due to atmospheric pressure. When the atmospheric pressure changes or is disturbed by vibrations, the balance is upset, causing the remaining water inside the shower head to flow out. It is worth noting that the larger the size of the shower head, the more likely it is that this phenomenon will occur.
5. Damaged shaft gasket in the pipe: water leaking from the shower spout can be caused by a damaged shaft gasket in the pipe, resulting in less friction causing the leakage problem.
6. Damaged seal due to gap under faucet spigot: a gap under the faucet spigot allows the seal on the inside of the gland to be damaged, which can also be a cause of leakage problems.
Loose or untightened cap nut: the cap nut is loose or not tightened, causing a leak at the switch receiver location.
7. Problems at the shower mains interface: causes of leaks at the shower mains interface may include damage to the interface gasket, rust at the interface, and build-up of limescale at the spout leading to clogging of the shower.
